St. Gabriel Archangel Parish has from its first day been committed to lifelong Total Catholic Education. For many years we operate in our own elementary school that has served our parish community extremely well. We have also continuously supported our West Deanery High School which is Cardinal Ritter High School and provided a variety of other educational opportunities. These include sacramental preparation, adult education programs, Sunday morning religious education (CCD), youth ministry and vacation Bible school.
However the face of education is changing in the 21st century and with it we are changing the way we meet the educational needs of our parishioners and the community. The 2009-2010 school year was the last year for St. Gabriel Elementary School. Beginning with the 2010-2011 school year we have begun a partnership with St. Michael’s Catholic Elementary School that will eventually include partnerships with Cardinal River High School and Marian University. This new partnership will provide high-quality 21st century educational opportunities for our students.
We continue to provide sacramental preparation, Sunday religious education, and adult education programs, youth ministry and Vacation Bible school here at St. Gabriel. However our elementary students now attend St. Michael’s Catholic Elementary School which we support with our time talent and treasure. We are very excited about the quality of program which our students will receive as a result of this new partnership. As our pastor has often said, the children we are educating today will have jobs and challenges which do not even exist today. So our educational system has to adapt to the future and this new partnership can better meet their needs while maintaining the tradition of excellence which Catholic schools have always had as their hallmark.
